Why Stephen A. Smith is wrong again - the Charlotte Bobcats

At the NBA draft, ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith listed the Charlotte Bobcats as the biggest loser of the draft. His reasoning? Gerald Wallace is just as good as Jason Richardson.

That's quite an observation considering Wallace has had every opportunity to take over the Bobcats and make them his team. They haven't had another lead scorer and he's still not been able to be consistent. That's not to say Wallace isn't good, he's very talented and athletic and he's been successful on the court. But he's not the guy to take a team to the next level, or in the Bobcats case, to a level. He's a good second fiddle and a great third fiddle, but as first fiddle nobody is getting on the floor dancing.

J-Rich, on the other hand, has proven his consistency. He's a top-notch scorer and has the skills to post up. He's been a leader on an okay team for a few years. He's better as a second fiddle, but he's a great second fiddle. As first fiddle, at least you can expect a crappy seed in the playoffs next year to get the young guys experience. Then when one of the young guys improves enough to step up and take on first fiddle, he'll be willing to go along with it.

Wallace is just another young guy who is never going to be the best. Richardson is a consistent scorer who understands the game, can be a leader, and will be an important piece of the puzzle three to four years from now when Charlotte becomes an elite team.
